HOW I WORK WITH YOU

Your needs shape my therapeutic work with you.  I work with you to set your own goals for therapy, and I draw from a variety of approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and insight-oriented therapy, to help you reach your goals.  You can expect that you will be listened to, and that we will interact.  The qualities I value most in the therapeutic process are mutual respect and collaboration.

HOW I WORK WITH YOUR CHILD OR TEEN

With young children, I find that play therapy—using art, puppets, doll-house figures to help children express their feelings and problem-solve—is often helpful.  I will also meet with you, the parent or parents.  Together, we will monitor your child’s progress.  I will also offer suggestions for ways you can help improve your child’s situation.  When appropriate, I also can consult with your child’s teachers.

With teenagers, all but the youngest teens are ready for talk therapy.  Sometimes art combined with talk therapy is helpful.  During the course of therapy with a teenager, I also meet with the parent or parents and teen together.  For some teens, these sessions with parent(s) and teen together are frequent; for others, seldom, depending on the needs of the parent(s) and teen.
